What’s in a name, or Avatar depiction challenge!!

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what kind of pic would fit my username, “espressojoe”, and notice the different images that come to mind when I see other people’s usernames.

With this in mind, I propose a challenge of art created around your username (handle)!! The more creative the better!!!!

Even if you don’t have a “creative” username, you can still participate, just streach it a little. If I used my name, Joseph Callahan for a handle, I could go look up the “meanings” of my names and fly with that:

Joseph means: He will enlarge…. (ok, with how my bathroom scale is reading, I guess I’m living up to that…. NOT going to be inspired by the Joseph or the Joe half of my username!)

Callahan means: Lover of Churches or Bright Headed.

Of course, my username is espressojoe, not Joseph Callahan Art, so Ill be using espressojoe to come up with a example. This was just to show that even if your user name is a variant of your name name, you can still get creative and enter!!!

The rules:

Any media art allowed!

Art should be inspired by some part of your username, with a brief description of how its inspired if it’s not immediately obvious.

Art does NOT have to become your avatar, so don’t worry about having to change your avatar.

Entries CAN NOT be something you have ALREADY used as an avatar! Let’s get some fresh stuff!!

Whatever media, whatever form, HAVE FUN!!!! (Isn’t that one of the most important reasons we do these?)

I’ll open a thread for submissions with the first piece, my “example” piece, on November 1st and submissions will be open until Midnight November 15th.

I’ll then ask EVERYONE who entered to vote for their favorite submission, either by PM or have admin tag a poll to the top of the post. Only request is that you DO NOT vote for your own piece! Only vote for your favorite submission by someone else. This should help keep it interesting!!

As this challenge is NOT media specific, I am posting it only in the Challenge Central forum.

Intriguing challenge!  And I find this concept of particular personal interest, since my 'handle' happens to be my given name -- and an unusual moniker at that.  Hmmm... think I may have to ruminate and digest on this for a little while....

Don't change the rules just for me... maybe having just 2 weeks would put a fire under people!

Love it, Joe! Ha, ha, that's exactly what I think of when I see your username.
Why is it that I can think of a lot of creative things for other people's usernames, but not my own. (!)
I'll work on it though.

Annie

Here is one from me.....it needs some introduction!  My name came about because I needed a name at EBAY.  All the cutesy ones seemed taken.  At that time I was working on some music on my hammered dulcimer, the tune was Abbot Bromley's Hordance.  I decided to put in Bromley assuming no one would have THAT....well, someone did so I ended up with Bromley2.......kinda weird, ha.  Certainly not cutsey!

This image is of music and my hammered dulcimer hammers and a bit of photoshop magic. (alas I no longer have the music for the Horndance, so just picked up pieces of music for this.)

O.K. first I have to explain that my name has nothing to do with Star Trek.

I took the name Nellie X  becuase of Malcolm X who used the X because he said "black people only could learn their slave names" ( I'm totally paraphrasing here!)

As a woman I can't ever know my "real" name either My name is from the long line of fathers and husbands and the female names have been lost forever.

Oh crap, for some reason I completely missed this - I'd love to participate but seriously doubt I could get something done by the 15th. I'll see what I can do though, mine should be fairly easy. I'd been thinking of changing my user ID anyway to something more relevant (this is my ebay ID that I picked ages ago, long before I started selling my paintings).

Anyway, I'll see if I can scrounge something up.

Here's mine. I picked up this little balsa wood guy a few years ago...
A photo is all I have time for right now.
The story is here: http://www.ebsqart.com/forum/m_98117/mpage_1/tm.htm#98173
along with other peeps' name stories.
ETA: posting the image would help too...

Here's mine: "Annie's Chop" 2.5" x 3.5" collage art card (ACEO)

My EBSQ username collage is made using an actual Chinese chop made of my name. It has been printed on cream wc paper and embossed and fashioned into a collage using Mexican milagros, a family antique locket, foil candy paper, and vintage family photos. Every element of this collage has meaning for me, as does my username AnnieM.

Thanks, Joe, for hosting this fun challenge. Yay, I made it before the deadline :)

Annie

My forum name is bafiedel.  This was originally a user ID that my husband started using years and years ago.  It is simply his first initials and last name- B. A. Fiedel.  However, I have the same initials and last name, and over the years I have appropriated this ID for my own use.

Here is how I would illustrate it:

After I posted, I looked at the rules.  I think I'm ok on all points, except I would not call it 'ART' LOL
