In the members section of the forums we play a weekly game of Simon Sez. Our members post art of all different styles/types/media to a specfic topic. The winner is the next weeks Simon, who chooses the next topic and winner. It's been very fun...a bit difficult to choose the winners but here they are.

I was luck enough to be the first Simon. My topic was Landscapes. There were many, many excellent pieces of art. I choose Muriel Areno's

"Lakeside 2007"

I was drawn to the color and the loose brush strokes. Looking more closely at the piece I found the shadows and refections to be brilliant.
Check out the rest of Muriel's work here  http://www.ebsqart.com/Artists/cmd_8256_profile_portfolio__2_1_G.htm  She's pretty awesome

Thanks, Lisa! (no happy blushing smiley?)

Since I won the first contest, I got to be Simon the second week.
The theme I chose was fall, and the winner was Kevin Murray with this wonderful image:

" falling leaf "

I made my decision on originality and concept. I just love the motion of the leaf falling. Rarely do you see so much movement in a still image. And the contrast of color and shadow is amazing as well.
Here's a link to Kevin's portfolio (good idea, Lisa).

Thank you for choosing my " falling leaf "  Muriel !!

So it was my turn to pick the theme for the following week of "Simon Sez", so I came up with "Flight" for my category. I wanted a subject that could have many meanings. Flight as in a bird or plane, flight as in a flight of stairs or a flight of fancy which could be interpreted many ways.

After a week of being amazed at the quality of art to choose from I finally chose Dawn Lee Thompson's " winged " as my winner for my week of being Simon. Her work in stained glass impressed me and is still impressing me, a week after I have made my decision.

You can see more of Dawn's work here:

The winner for the theme of "Isolation" is Joseph J. Callahan! This photo was truly a standout among great entries; eerie, thought provoking and beautiful. It definitely brings you back for another look!

Joe's photography and wonderful beadwork can be seen here:

Congratulations, Joe!

For my theme, I chose "Furry Friends" as our animal family members are so important to us, and are not as often recognised as they should be. The winner was Jeanne "Harlan's" Needle felt "Pritten", Latte.

More of Harlan's "Prittens" and wonderful "Intamate Forrest" oil paintings can be seen here:

I chose the timely theme Halloween/Dia de los Muertos for last week, and the winner was nelliex:

Her painting Day of the Dead has been one of my favorites of Noelle's works since I first saw it last year. I love the yummy paint quality and brushwork, the bright splash of the apple and the vulnerable/human quality of the skeleton.

After being Lucky enough to win the Dia de Muertos challenge I chose Light as my theme

There was an amazing group of images this time around but  we have a WINNER
Maybe it's my Canadian heritage, but there is something in capturing that winter light that moves me.
