it's a venus fly trap.  I started with a rough drawing and decided to fill in the background first this time around.  Using acrylics since I don't have much time until the deadline for this show.....

So this is what I'm thinking...  the inspiration for this is a horrible woman that I know that has been pining after the husband of a sweet friend of mine.  My girlfriend is besides herself and I could just cry for her when I see how this woman acts.  I likely won't show this painting to her anytime soon, but I can't get this other wench of a woman out of my head as I prepare to use such pretty paint colors to depict something pretty much vicious.  It will be an abstract...  but I guess you knew that!

I have seen few abstracts in the botanical shows - this seems like an interesting endeavor

Looks good so far, Lisa! There's nothing like real-life inspiration to put a fire under you!
Sorry your friend has to deal with that though...

That is lovely, Lisa.  The colors are just on fire - reflective of your emotions I am sure, but I would think it will appeal to many people for many reasons.

Thanks, ya'll.  Here I am, under the wire with everything this time around.  I applied some oils over top of the acrylics, very very thin, because I just wasn't getting the depth of color that I wanted before.  I think I absolutely prefer oils after this revisit to acrylics, but acrylics are a LOT faster.  Now I just need to think of a name for this.  I think I'll sell this one sooner rather than later.

Really dramatic - I like how you turn the painting around different ways.... Your friend shouldn't have to worry about that woman, her husband will put "that woman" in her place if she goes too far!
