CONGRATULATIONS VICKEY KNOWLES AKA PLATYPUS ON WINNING THE "WHATS IN A NAME" CHALLENGE!!!!!

Honorable Mention to Elizabeth Fidel AKA bafidel for SECOND PLACE!!!!!

I also want to give special recognition to the challenge host's personal favorite, even though I could vote. HOST'S PERSONNAL FAVORITE was Robin Cruz Mc Gee AKA Robin47, a fellow Douglass Adams fan!!

Thank you EVERYONE who entered, and everyone who voted!!!!

Go To http://www.ebsqart.com/forum/m_220997/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#220997 to see the results of the vote!!!!

The entries were as follows:

Bromley2
nelliex
toucanne
AnnieM
bafiedel
fallbaby55
Robin47
platypuss

The Rules of the challenge were as follows:

quote:

The rules:

Any media art allowed!

Art should be inspired by some part of your username, with a brief description of how its inspired if it’s not immediately obvious.

Art does NOT have to become your avatar, so don’t worry about having to change your avatar.

Entries CAN NOT be something you have ALREADY used as an avatar! Let’s get some fresh stuff!!

Whatever media, whatever form, HAVE FUN!!!! (Isn’t that one of the most important reasons we do these?)

I’ll open a thread for submissions with the first piece, my “example” piece, on November 1st and submissions will be open until Midnight November 15th.

I’ll then ask EVERYONE who entered to vote for their favorite submission, either by PM or have admin tag a poll to the top of the post. Only request is that you DO NOT vote for your own piece! Only vote for your favorite submission by someone else. This should help keep it interesting!!

As this challenge is NOT media specific, I am posting it only in the Challenge Central forum.

Refresher of the entries:

Bromley2

quote:

Here is one from me.....it needs some introduction! My name came about because I needed a name at EBAY. All the cutesy ones seemed taken. At that time I was working on some music on my hammered dulcimer, the tune was Abbot Bromley's Hordance. I decided to put in Bromley assuming no one would have THAT....well, someone did so I ended up with Bromley2.......kinda weird, ha. Certainly not cutsey!

This image is of music and my hammered dulcimer hammers and a bit of photoshop magic. (alas I no longer have the music for the Horndance, so just picked up pieces of music for this.)

nelliex

quote:

I took the name Nellie X becuase of Malcolm X who used the X because he said "black people only could learn their slave names" ( I'm totally paraphrasing here!)

As a woman I can't ever know my "real" name either My name is from the long line of fathers and husbands and the female names have been lost forever.

toucanne

quote:

I got the toucan thing from my mother. She was a high-ranked bridge player (before she went blind; she hasn't played for several years now). Anyway, she once was in this tournament where you had to pick a pseudonym for yourself, and she chose Toucan. When I signed up for AOL back in 91 or 92, she was here visiting and had just told me that story, so I thought it would be a good name for me too. It was already taken, so I went for Toucan2. After that, whenever I needed a user name, that's what I picked and it just morphed into Toucanne because people in chat rooms thought I was a guy.

AnnieM

quote:

My EBSQ username collage is made using an actual Chinese chop made of my name. It has been printed on cream wc paper and embossed and fashioned into a collage using Mexican milagros, a family antique locket, foil candy paper, and vintage family photos. Every element of this collage has meaning for me, as does my username AnnieM.

bafiedel

quote:

My forum name is bafiedel. This was originally a user ID that my husband started using years and years ago. It is simply his first initials and last name- B. A. Fiedel. However, I have the same initials and last name, and over the years I have appropriated this ID for my own use.

fallbaby55

I was born in the fall of 55 so...

This needs no explanation:

OK here's mine, pretty obvious:

Thanks!

This was a great idea for a challenge, I'm just sorry more people didn't enter. Speaking of which, why didn't you do one, Joe? Or is the challenge host not allowed?

Re. Douglas Adams - I had tried reading those books back when I was in college but just couldn't get into them (which is surprising because everyone who knows me assumes it's something I'd like). I was just discussing them the other day with a friend from work (well my former work that is) - & I'm going to give his books another try.

I did one as an example in the original thread, but didn't put it up for voting as Challenge hosts are not supposed to enter the challenge. My example was:

Can you guess why?? LOL!!!

Congrats again to Vicky and all the people who submitted, you all did GREAT!!!
