OK....its January, so time to sign up for the mixed media glass challenge! You don't need to know traditional glass techniques to participate. Here's how it will work: Sign up in the glass forum by Jan 31, then PM me with your address. Starting on January 18, I will mail you some glass. About 1 pound of scrap of varying sizes. (Approximately a square foot.) I'll have it all ground smooth for you and won't send any particularly fragile shapes. I plan to send a variety of textures and opacities, generally in a monochromatic palette, with a few accent pieces thrown in. Those who sign up early will have a bit of an advantage in that they'll have extra time after receiving their glass to complete their projects. Then use the glass in whatever way you want to make art! No rules other than it should be mixed media and prominently feature the glass. Paint it, put it in a painting, wire wrap or glue on a bail and make jewelry, glue it together to make a sculpture, try a mosaic, stick it in polyclay....whatever! If you WANT to cut it, you can buy a $4 cutter at your local hardware store and I'll be happy to give you tips and pointers. Anything goes. Hopefully it will be lots of fun! Please feel free to post questions, WIP's, and finished pieces up in the glass forum or down here. I'll keep an eye on both forums. Have your pieces completed and posted by February 28. On February 29, (Leap Day!), I'll make an official entry post up in glass so its easy to find and compare the pieces, and ask Moo to put up a poll. A week later, the winner and runner up receive fabulous prizes!! So head on up to Glass and sign up!
