Subject: The Canvas Project

Your work at the world's busiest airport!

Sign up to receive five 3"x3" canvases and a list of 5 user generated
words that you are to interpret onto each canvas. The goal of the
exhibition is to create a visual encyclopedia using mini canvases and
artists from all over the world. At least one of your canvases will be
published in an Art House book and one will be on display at the
worlds busiest airport, The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International
Airport.

Take part in this project to not only help gain exposure for yourself,
but also to push your creative ideas out. Everyone who signs up and
sends back their work will be included in the book and the
exhibition. We do not jury any of the work. Art House is all about
community and you don't have to be a professional artist to
participate in the exhibition. This project is about being creative
and inspiring yourself and others. We want to bring artists together
and give everyone a chance to show in galleries and other venues
across the country!

Sign up Deadline: April 15th 2009

Postmark Deadline: July 1st 2009

To sign up to participate, visit:

Art House projects have been featured in Juxtapoz Magazine, Good
Magazine, Urban Outfitters blog, Yahoo Daily Wire, Atlanta Magazine
and National Geographic's Intelligent Traveler. Check out their
website for more information about how to get involved:

They have another project I'm interested in too, called the "10,000 project" where they have 10,000 people interpret the same word. I'll sign up if I can get my work back (I wrote to them asking since it wasn't stated).

One good thing about the canvas project is that it'll be at the airport in Atlanta over Labor day weekend, if we can make it down to Dragon Con this year (keeping fingers crossed, it's iffy due to finances since I'm out of work) I'd even be able to see it!

This is very cool I signed up too.  I need to go look at what other projects they have going on.

I will definitely drive the hour and a half to see it. A very interesting concept.

I've already got my canvas and my words.  I ended up with rambunctious, unatural, scuttlebutt, rampant, & cartouche.

I got mine a few days ago. They are slowly getting them all out!

My words are anthropomorphic, quasicrystals, zealot, complover, and people.

Kimmy, when did you sign up? Some of those words are pretty hard, do we have to do all 5?

This is a little concerning since I signed up before you, Amanda. On the other hand, you're in Georgia & I think the people organizing this are in GA too, so maybe mine's in the mail.

They charged my account on March 4th and I signed up right before that.  They came in a big envelope via the post office.  I got them last week.  Pretty fast really.
I think my words are easier than Amandas!  Yikes!!  Quasicrystals?!  I'm going to try to do all five.  I'm still brainstorming some ideas right now.

Amanda, sorry I missed where you posted your words - what the heck is complover???

I just checked, they sent mine on 3/17, I wonder what took so long. I'm not really happy about it because it gives me less time to do them, but oh well.

I have no clue what complover is LOL. I still need to sit down and look up the words. I know I've heard the word quasicrystals before, but its another one that will take some thinking.

I can't remember if you have to do all 5 but I am going to - somehow

For everyone who is participating don't forget to include a return (and stamped) envelope if you want to get them back.

I just did an image search on quasicrystals, they're pretty - shouldn't be too hard to incorporate in some way.

All I can find for complover is that it seems to be an abbreviation for "computer lover".

I just got mine!

My words are:

Aesthetic (I have no clue what to do with this one)
Process (again, no clue yet)
Smiggin (?) Maybe I'll just do a character named Smiggin. That or maybe they meant "smidgeon"?
Rock (thought of you, Amanda!)
Clean

I love the little tiny canvases too.

Do you know what you'll do for quasicrystals? For Rock I think I'm going to paint Thing from the Fantastic Four.

I haven't even begun thinking about it yet. It's on my list of things to start next week.
