Step 1 - Go to your profile page by clicking the appropriate link:

Step 2 - Click the link for uploading avatars:

Step 3 - A pop-up window should appear. Click the "Choose File" button to upload your avatar image:

Step 4 - Note that your avatar image should not exceed the given size:

Step 5 - Don't forget to click the "OK" button:

Step 6 - Go to the bottom of your profile page and click "Apply":

This should be it.

If it doesn't work, you can try one of the following:
  • Try down-sizing your image. Photoshop and Photoshop Elements have a "Save for Web" command under "File" that should help.
  • Try using a different web browser for this. Some web browsers work better then others for this.
  • If you did everything correctly and your avatar doesn't seem to show up, try pushing the refresh button of your web browser.

Peace,
Guy

I had a successful upload of my image but it's not showing up anywhere after the upload. I am using the Mozilla Firefox browser...does that have anything to do with it?

linda,

we didn't upload any stock avatars since most folks just tend to use their own pics or artwork. that's why it didn't work.  but if you're interested in getting help creating your own avatar, i am sure there are several members that would be willing to lend a hand!

I'm trying to get a photo to show up on the left column of my posted messages. Is that called a profile photo or an avatar? I uploaded a profile photo, but I am not seeing it.

Did you remember to hit the apply button after you uploaded it, Caren?  It's at the very bottom of the control panel screen where you input all your information.

you only uploaded your profile photo. but you can check the box that makes your profile photo also work as your avatar, which is what shows up next to your posts.

(the profile photo right now is just showing when someone clicks on your name to look at your profile for the message boards)

Hi, I am still having trouble uploading, this l time, up load was refused because I am using Apple OX, I used Internet Explorer instead of Safari and that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Amie,

I ended up uploading an old photo I used in the old message board, which is the only one that worked.

The photo is two years old and I am trying to upload a more recent photo, but even though I reduced the new photo to 9k, it still says the file is too big.

Hi Guy,

Your info is wonderful and I have retried quite a few times. But I still cannot get my avatar to load. I even took the jpeg down to 4kb 145x145 and still it does not load.

It gives me the word "errror"

Mac os 10-safari-photoshop6.0 ( photoshop runs in os9)

The same pic in my profile is what I want for my avatar. Wish you had a button to just pop them both in.

Thanks for your help and time

Sharon

there seems to be an incompatiblity with safari and uploading images to this forum, sharon. for purposes of uploading your avatar, you might want to use IE or another browser. we contacted the folks that make this software, but we haven't gotten a solution for this incompatibility yet.

Hi Sharon,

I had the same problem. I used Explorer for uploading my image. I still do everything else in Safari though

Hopefully, as Amie said, they can come up for a solution for this with the people who made the forum software, but you would probably have your avatar up before that...

HELP.... I don't know why... but no matter how small I make it - and save it as a jpeg or gif... it keeps saying file is too large!  aaarrgghh!

kel, not sure which image software you're using, but did you try the "Save for web" option? that seems to shrink the actual file size so it's not as bulky without having to upload a a miniscule jpeg that looks like a dot.

After experiencing the "error loding to disk" message myself, I read all the posts for a solution. I am on a Mac with OSX and usually use Safari. I switched to Firefox for uploading my avatar and it seems to have worked. I would like to point out that Microsoft, in their wisdom, are no longer updating IE for Mac and haven't for quite a while, several years in fact. This is my first post, so lessee if my picture loads!
