I'm in an art group that just tried out a new art supply - at least we'd never heard of them before, Silky Crayons. Yup, we found them in the kid's art supplies, but we all really LOVED the effect. It is a lot like very thin oil pastels or glazes of watercolor. I've posted a couple of pics so you can see the effect. Best of all it's water soluble so no stinky solvents. We just used them on cheapie canvas panels for an experiement, but they were easy to shade, spreadable like butter and we were able to move them around easily with water, they made great backgrounds. The package says "Is it an oil, a pastel or a crayon?" and you sure can't tell what it is. The piece I did I've put on sealant heavily just to see what it would do and they held up well. I've got no idea as to how toxic, long-term holding up, or anything. But I got a big set cheap ($9) and they were a fun experiment that I think I'll use again. Has anybody here used them before? I liked the backgrounds we got. Annie
