I'm pleased with this painting but I wonder if the background should be a Cobalt Blue instead of Ultramarine an be more smooth than showing my strokes?  I hate it when I do this.

the strokes don't actually bother me, but I think a deeper color would make the puppy pop.  Welcome to the boards, Wanda!  We have alot of animal artists here that will be glad to see you.

I agree, I don't mind the strokes showing but think a blue that would equal the value of the reddish flowers would be more appealing in my opinion

The strokes are fine. The shade of blue doesn't matter that much I think, but I like the way it's slightly darker at the bottom and lighter at the top. The puppy being dark, I think you should keep or even emphasize the slight gradation of values you have now.

Yep.. I think the ligher blue is fine.. but I'd exaggerate the graduation of color getting the darker at the bottom..

I love the brushstrokes and think they add a lot.  Love the graduation, but I think a darker color would make the dog pop more.....now you have several versions of what to do....Aren't we a lot of help?!!
