We're thinking of adding a challenge-specific section to our public forums where members can easily see at a glance which member-issued challenges are going on. The way we'd expect it to work is that the challenge would be issued in the new section, but results posted in a linked thread in the media/genre related forum. (or some other way that you guys suggest in comments below) Is this of interest to you?

CLARIFICATION: I realized my text wasn't clear enough. The challenges won't happen in the new section; it will simply be a directory pointing to new challenges, their requirements, the dates, prizes (if any), etc, and will point to where the challenge is happening in the proper media/genre section. This is to bring MORE traffic and visibility to your section, and help people find challenges if they don't normally read your section.

The challenges drive alot of traffic to the media forums.  Hard to come up with stuff all the time to keep those places hopping.  Speaking of which... sigh... my forum is looking a bit dusty.  Maybe a challenge in November after the doll challenge.....

I TOTALLY agree with this, which is why we propose that all challenges, while posted for reference on the proposed challenge forum, still take place in their actual forum.  Think of it as a directory of all ongoing challenges and easy links to get to where they're actually happening. It's our hope that it actually drives MORE traffic to the media/genre specific forums, not less. (and I'm realizing I didn't explain this very well when I posted the poll, lol)

As long as the challenge forum consists of posts linking to the challenge-threads in the respective forums they come from, I think it's fine. Maybe make the threads closed for comments to keep the traffic headed in the right directions? I think it would be valuable to have a directory for the challenges--it might even get more traffic going into the specific forums.

Oh good. I would have said no if it was a self-contained challenge section, but this way would work nicely. I have plans for my section coming up soon, so I'm for anything that will bring more traffic.

I think having these in their own section would be great - I love participating in challenges and contests, and keep a list on my dry erase board for them, so having them together in one place would make it so much easier to post my pieces and see what the next ones are so I can plan appropriately. Great idea, as far as I'm concerned, because I think people can generally tell by looking if they have something to do with another topic they were interested in.

I like this idea alot, I am always up for a good challenge, but finding them in the forum sometimes is hard, sometimes I end up on the wrong year....it would be nice to go straight to the source...

What a good idea!  I'd never find them if they were spread all over the place without a central place to look!
