I am frustrated and unsure which step to take.  I have upgraded to photoshop CS3. It runs about 3 minutes and then announces that "Photoshop has encountered a problem and must close.  Sorry for the inconvenience"!  I think what I need to do is re-install it.  What I am worried about is what I do about activation.  (I have asked about this on another list and was told to de-activate it to start the uninstall).  I have not done the official activation but something involving activation happened when I loaded it.  Now I am afraid if I de-activate it and re-load it that I will mess up the activation with Adobe and not be able to use the progam.  To call Adobe costs $39.00 each episode and I just can't afford that.  So do I use the de-activate button and then re-load it or just uninstall and re-install, or what???

Carolyn

You should have a free call-in period with the new software. It sounds like the kind of error you get when your software is installed but not activated.
Did you look there: http://www.adobe.com/support/photoshop/ ?

Thank you, Muriel and thank you for pm'ing me.  I went to your listing and put in the problem.  I finally found an article that included that error message.  However, all their solutions would require my computer guy to move in with me!.....One that I will try is de-fragmenting my hard drives.  Haven't done that for a while and who knows maybe it is something that simple.  I am about to just uninstall and reinstall it and see what happens.  But do you know, do I need to deactivate the activation (even though I have never done the activation part???)  In PS it shows the activation selection as grayed out as if I had activated it but I don't think I have.  I certainly never called anyone.

Thanks for the help.

Carolyn

You're welcome, although it wasn't much... Windows PCs are foreign territory to me!
Did you look on the Adobe forums if you could ask there? Did you uninstall CS2? It might be a good idea to defrag your drive anyway. Sorry I couldn't help more, good luck.

Don't apologize, your help was quite a bit.  Hopefully the defragmenting.  I will consider uninstalling CS2, but I think it needs to be there if your putting in an Upgrade...they have to verify that you have an active program that is activated.

One step at a time.  Defraging all my drives now.

Thanks,
Carolyn
