It has been AGES since I have been able to finish a Pritten - I've been working on this one when I could over the last two months.

So here is TENACITY = she wasn't going to give up on being completed

I've actually already started... I need to start my own thread and not hi-jack yours - but I had to say how much your work has made me smile, and inspired me! Here is one of mine:

THANKS!!!

I got into this after seeing a book called "Fleece Dogs" - thought I could do that and bought a kit just to get a start. It wasn't a great kit and after reading the instructions I threw them out and just did what I wanted to do instead. The result was the mouse who is the shop mascot in my Etsy store.

Not finished but getting close - another long fur as I'm trying to learn how to make that look more realistic. A good deal of the furring was done at a different angle than I normal use which helps (I think).

So Gandalf the Grey WIP

This is also meant to look more like a kitten than a cat.

Aw, he's so nice Jeanne. Reminds me a little of our kitty Sydney that we lost last week. Our neighbor hit him on the road, we went to look for him, but couldn't find his remains to bury him. Love how he seems to be looking adoringly at someone.

I think your doing a great job at realism.  You're quite successful at it.  This one is adorable.

THANKS!!!!!

Except for the white on the face he reminds me of my cat Dozen that I lost many years ago - didn't have that in mind. I had a cute kitten photo on my work table and was sometimes referring to it for guidance.

So Jeo - I am so very sorry about your Sydney!!!  That's so sad!!!!

THanks!!

I'm not completely satisfied with my control on the fur just yet. The silk is so fine that it will lay down when I want it to stay poofy. I can style it for the photo-op but it won't necessarily stay that way. There is no easy way to learn this either. I have sample pieces on which I try techniques but that is never the same as working on a Pritten. So each time I'm never quite sure if it is going to work or not - which is a whole lot of work to have something fail. I suppose I could always trim to short hair status if I really mess up. ;)

I hope to have time to work on him today but the furnace repair person is going to be here soon.

Is it all silk, or do you combine an undercoat of woll and a top coat of silk?

The majority of the Pritten is made from wool but the fur is all silk. I tried wool as fur and it likes to mat - which is why it is good for needle felting. Just the process of doing the fur could cause previous areas of wool fur to mat and be ruined. Silk looks excellent as fur. I have also tried a combination of silk and wool for the fur and may try that again sometime. Probably on some test pieces before I comit to doing it on a Pritten.
