We're bringing in a few more programmers in January to discuss our proposed plans for the site redesign since every last detail is being re-written from scratch to increase both speed and ease of use.

We're wondering:
  • what three things do you currently really like about the existing site?
  • what three things do you currently really hate about the existing site?
  • what three features would you like to see added to the next release?

We can tell a lot about what site features are being used (or ignored) and as people who also have to use the site daily, we have our own lists of loves and hates, but without your feedback, that picture is incomplete.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hmmmmm....

Dislikes:

No descriptions on the COAs just a big open area that is missing something.....drives me batty!!!!

Benifit Stats are vague I would love keyed in stats - (I think you had mentioned this before.........I thinks) So I don't have to put a conter on each painting to see what is hot or not.

No buy it now (Purchase) buttons on the art............I had thought about simply pipin in a Paypal shopping cart button but - that might get me into hot water

And a fourth to grow on........would love more lead time on prospectus of the more *artsy shows* so the idea is clearly laid out - so I don't start something that in the end does not qualify.

Likes:

LOVE the ease of setting up new artwork in my portfolio!!!!!!

LOVE the Random artwork shown up top!!!!!

LOVE the COAS and the lock ulock aspect.

LOVE how a patron can create their own private art gallery/artists.

LOVE the forums (*teehee)

What would I like added?

Gee I dont know........um

I will think on that...............

what Kris said....   sorry.. I'll think on it.. I'm pretty much happy here.. all i can think of is the buy now of prints that would just link to Imagekind????

and statement put on COA's so I don't have to print it seperately..

That's it.. and just to say.. Amie.. you are much appreciated and I'm excited to know that you are working to keep improving here!!!  You are doing a wonderful job!!!

I haven't had a chance to think about it too much, but the one thing that pops to mind is the search feature when looking up an artist - I'd like there to be more options & filters.  For example, I was curious to see who else was from NJ, I had to put in both NJ & Jersey (so I had to do the switch twice) and then it brought up a bunch of people who weren't in NJ.  It seems to search everything in their profile.  Searching by state was just an example that I encountered recently.

I'll try to think of other likes & dislikes.

I would like photos to automatically resize at the browse stage to fit into whatever the requirements for what I am putting the photo in,,,Hey,,you said list anything,,,I don't know how genius these people are who you have working on the site

I would like a mini auction site for ebsq members only,,,one for yard sale, one for art,,,wouldn't that be fun? Maybe eventually could go public.

I would like a buy it now button and paypal link,,,like Kris said

Also as Kris said,,,more lead time before shows with prospectus listed for shows, for example I am working on a succulant painting right now for a present for someone,,,I would have loved to know the prospectus to make sue 100% it will fit into the show,,,or I could tweak it to fit.

I would like more smiley face choices,,,

I would like the inbox to automatically drop off the oldest pm except any that have been flagged save,,,so I don't have to go through and delete them all myself.

I would like one cohesive place for all the technical stuff addressed so that (especially for new members) you don't have to pour through random tech threads to see if your problem has been addressed) I hate to refer to ebay ever as an example for anything,,,,but they have a section that helps a person to trouble shoot a problem before having to try and contact someone,,,that would be great,,,a how to sort of thing maybe.

And what Platypus said,,,all of that,,,better ways to find art and artists in the search and gallery

I love the COAs, the forums, the online portfolio, the ease with the art case, the shows

I need to really think about it, because I really like the way EBSQ works and think you guys do a fantastic job Amie.

Things I like a lot~
The monthly artist interviews on the front page.
The ease of use of the art case and entering shows.
Being able to attend the artists talk/presentations held on Mondays, although most start to early for me to attend as I am pst.

As others mentioned, some things could be fine tuned~
Greater lead time on posted prospectus for shows. In a perfect world, the prospectus would be presented at the same time as the schedule. I have not entered stuff in shows because of this.

My biggest pet peeve has to do with the forum actually, and that includes two things. This might just be in pm's, but I think it is the case on the public forum as well.
Not copy feature when you are writing your own posts...why is this important? Because of my other pet peeve, a strict limit on how long a post can be, that irritates me to no end. Once you hit post, and the message happens to be too big, its just gone.
I have spent a long time on certain posts or pms containing huge amounts of specific information...hit send and *poof* its all gone. Omg I cannot tell you how mad this makes me lol. I vote for unlimited length, If I am on a tear I am on a tear, or let me at least be able to copy what I have said before I hit send so I can break it up into segments before it is lost.

I have even written entire posts in word or notepad to circumvent the issues described above.

Things I love:

1) my portfolio. It's easy to use, and looks great.

2) The overall professional look of the site.

3) The vast forums.

Things I hate:

1) The fact that there's no way for a patron to purchase my art from this site, although I understand that including a purchase button option on each item would LOOK like EBSQ was responsible for delivery, but would actually be RELYING on sometimes really flaky and not-so-bright artists to deliver the item, and that would be a lawsuit or ten just waiting to happen, and, well, bugger that. However, Kris's idea of piping in our own PayPal button on salable items is a good one, provided those who do also include a proviso that exempts EBSQ from liability in the event of non-delivery of a purchased item. I dunno all the legal stuff, but I'd really like to be able to sell my stuff from here. DA does it, but they do it by only selling prints, and by handling the printing and delivery themselves. I understand that's the sort of deal you guys are working out with Imagekind, and it's a good idea. I don't know if Imagekind is entirely trustworthy. *shrug* That ain't my problem.

2) There's no way to sort images in a given gallery or portfolio by date. No way to find 'newest' art, etc. I still feel strongly that this is detrimental. It makes us look stagnant and static rather than dynamic.

3) I like the auction template, but there needs to be a) variety, several template designs to choose from and b) the ability to name and save different versions of the same template. I'm also not thrilled with the benefit stats, but that's probably because mine suck so badly.

I am also extremely happy here, especially with the forum.  I love the forum and how it works.  I also love my portfolio and the fact that it is another place I can send people to see my work.

Like Dawn, I would like to see some variety in the auction template.  I don't use it now because I am tired of the look.

I would also like to see some ease in the procedure around deleting artwork.  When I do it in the portfolio it always deletes then reverts to the first page of the portfolio and I have to click through to the page where I was working.  Also, if we could delete more than one at a time. That would be absolutely super.

Your doing a great job with this site and I am most pleased.  Thanks!

Carolyn

Okay, this is dumb, but when I play the art tile game there is not a button to take me back to the home page.

Navigating through the alphabetical list of artists is maddening.  There are 221 artists whose last names begin with "S."  If you want one in the middle you have to keep pushing "next page," wait for the page to load, and push it again and again.  I like to see:
1 2 3 4 5 >>> 19

Leave the non-voting shows, like the portrait show, up for the following month so people can see what was turned in at 11:30 on the 30th.  I know we who poke around here alot know where to find it, but others do not.

I like:
The image hosting.  I don't use it a bunch but I like that it is there.

the portfolio generally speaking.

I like the counter option, although I'm not good at putting them in other sites and I'm not sure why. .. .

New stuff:
more theory driven- maybe even more academic -articles in the zine.  Artist profiles are fine, but it would be neat to read something that made me think.  Lessons in art history?  I don't know, maybe I'm a dork.  I can go weeks at a time ignoring the zine.

the zine as we know it is going away to replace solely with a blog. it will in fact include more of the above type of articles if more of you submit them. we're always looking for good content to publish!

I'm very happy with this site.  :)

I love the shows.  They have made me stretch myself as an artist.  it is through the shows that I have realized that I could do things that I didn't think I could.

I love the boards.  That is the heart of the website for me.

If I could add one thing, I would add the ability to have people subscribe to members' portfolios.  So, someone could visit the site and get an automated email when I update my portfolio.  Then, if that were the case, I would use EBSQ to roll out all new art, and just tell interested people to subscribe to my EBSQ portfolio instead of having to send out a letter to folks announcing new art.

I mean, maybe that would be an email that went out once  week or something, because there have been times when I've made a dozen changes to my portfolio in a day... I wouldn't want 12 emails to go out in a day.

Anyway... that would be the only wish I'd have... a one stop shopping marketing feature to notify potential buyers of new art, directly from EBSQ.

Amie, you are doing a great job, so thank you!

I love the forums; it was such a joy to find all those topics and wonderful people when I joined. I love the fact that you can cuss and post images.

I love the ease of building my art case. Everything works! I just wish that I could go directly to my portfolio after updating my artcase instead of having to go to my profile first. And if I can I haven't seen where...

Like Heide, I would like a better choice of smileys, and pop-up labels that say what they are like on MSN. I may be dense, but some of 'em aren't obvious. Like, I love the little blue guy, but are those eyebrows or horns? Love the green hurling dude tho.

I haven't run into the post overload that Kelly mentions, but I have on other sites and I hate that too! Thanks Kelly, now if I run off at the mouth (mouse?) a little too long, I'll be sure to copy my post before hitting send!

I love the shows, they're the reason I joined, they're just what I need to get me going again.

Oh goody, so it's not something I missed!
I like to keep track of where stuff ends up since I have a lot of different pieces. I know it's only one extra mouse click, but when you're uploading 34 works, it adds to the tedium.
Likewise, it would be good to be able to go to a person's portfolio from the forums.

Muriel

Muriel--now that's one you actually CAN do already. click the little ebsq button you see in people's posts labeled "ebsq profile" and it will take you there

Thanks, Amie. I've been using that but it takes you to their profile. I know it's almost the same thing; I said it as an afterthought, really... Saving that one extra mouse click matters to me more with my own artcase as I mentioned earlier...

Amie- where can I read more about zine content or contributions or I suspect the "unzine" as it will be in January?  To be truthful, I hate blogs.  I find them bombastic and dull.  is this going to be the typical blog where someone bores us about how they walked the dog and didn't get a chance to paint or about their personal struggles with painters block?  I know I am a turd, but I really don't care in many cases.

That said. . . I do love the website!

I think you've been reading the wrong blogs, my friend! Our existing blog already replicates (or expands upon) content in the EBSQ zine.

EBSQ Blog

and here's another I personally read that I think you'll find engaging:

Craft Zine Blog

(they recently blogged one of our EBSQ Live presentations--squee!)

Think of it this way: a blog ideally about two way conversation, so really, it's our zine with the added bonus of conversational tools built right into it.
