Muriel got me thinking in an earlier thread.

Idea....Make a collaboration book with some of the photo of the day shots, from everyone. Put it on etsy or ebay or something and sell it for charity? Promote EBSQ, promote our art? Have a really cool book. Dumb idea?

Thoughts anyone? I don't even know where to get a book made how much it would cost ect.

Does that mean you would support the idea. LOL And we would be able to use the EBSQ logo?

Lisa, a great Idea, but a huge undertaking !  I love the start of a new project, very exciting !

Just a couple of my random thoughts... ( they dont mean squat right  )

If we could use EBSQ logo

A standard file size for each image ( quality control )

Who do we get to print it, read good and bad reviews about most publishing sites ( I think alot of the bad reviews where from people who uploaded lousy files and expected the publisher to fix them, which their NOT going to do )

        $$$$$$$

Print on demand I guess?  (but we would need some inventory stored somewhere so they could be shipped out right away, people don't like to wait, if sold on ebay or etsy )

How are we going to pick who's in, who's out  ( I can see losing some friends over that ) an ebsq pole for eack image ??

Okay, who else has an idea...

Um, and whatever happened to the cookbook? Maybe Amie could shed some light on some of the problems encountered there... Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that the same kind of thing?

As far as I know, the cookbook is still on hold, but plans are still there to make it.

There will have to be a lot of disscusion on this :
How do we choose photos, image size -- most publishers have their own req. on this, do we wish to pay to get an ISBN assigned (we can sell on Amazon then too, and submit to Barnes and Noble), do we wish to pay for copywrite protection of the book/collection (artists keep individual copywrites, but we can copywrite the book as a whole)...which publisher to use -- etc etc etc......

I wdefinatly want to help out in this process. This sounds like a lot of fun!!! (And if Aimee needs help on the cookbook, I'll volunteer for that too)

I think if we got Barns and Noble to carry the book at least in cities where one of the published artist lived, we could do book signings - promote the artists in their home cities - spread the word about EBSQ - AND help charity!!

Also press releases -- If your in the book, send a press release to your local news stations / newspapers and GET THE WORD OUT!!!

Yeah, I'm hooked on this idea now, so LETS DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of those thing have gone through my mind Kevin. I think you are on the right track. I was hoping for an idea session from everyone (maybe a graphic artist ummmm Muriel) would show up with some ideas.
I really would like everyone who would like to join in if they want to be invlolved. Even if they don't post photos ideas would always be welcome.

Brainstorm anyone?

Of course it has to be ok with all of the photogs that have photos in the threads. As far as choosing the photos, to me that would be the most difficult thing. Anyone have any ideas for that? My thought is that it is an EBSQ book of photos. So any member who would like to help is most certainly welcome. Marketing peeps? Help please.

As far as the quality of the photos, yep I realize that there will be differences. My guess would be a lower resolution photo would be fine in a smaller photo. So, I was thinking maybe several small photos on one page? Some big some small.

I suppose it will require some research as far as cost and inventory. Then there is always what charity to give the profits to.

Any poets who want to write about the photo's join in or just words about the photo's.

PS I started this post before reading Muriel's and Joe's great ideas Joe.

we would also need a (or a couple) pagemaster(s) - to do the layouts ect.

we have to remember it goes beyond stickin a couple nice photos together.
  • layouts
  • front/back cover design
  • the chairty
  • dedication or foreward
  • photo write ups
  • possible short bios /headshots or avatars?
  • fact checking for links ect to artist websites
  • correct pagination
  • agreements from artists that there will be no monitary compensation ect - permissions to use (legal)
ect I'm sure there is more.

and then the tedious act of chosing who gets in and who doesn't - limits? do they get a whole page to showcase several photos or one photo per page.......these are all things that need to be thought about.

(eta: removed a sentence frag from another thought)

I just wrote and deleted a big old vent about all I seem to do these days is volunteer... If this were a paying job, I'd take it in a minute.
A brain-storming session sounds good. In chat, maybe?

Are you volunteering to do all of that stuff

I agree, it's no small project. And yep I also agree with Kevin on the quality of the book. Needs to be very nice. It would be representing all of us.

LOL, that's what I do for a living and I know what's involved...
As I am in the middle of local arts council stuff (volunteer ), I can only say I wish I could.
I can tell people what to do, how's that?

The trouble with my line of work is that the whole world thinks they can do it, especially since the advent of computers and desktop publishing (gaad I hate that term...)
But if you're going to do a book, it should look professional, IMHO.

I know, Lisa!
Sorry, it's a bit of a sore subject at the moment.
But sure, I'll do what I can to help.

One of my favorite Flickrites, Pierre-Arnaud Gillet, has done a similar project, with 50 photos and a poem for each.
www.flickr.com/photos/pagillet/sets/72157594434519013/
The poetry is in French, but the blurbs on the Flickr pages are in English. His work is ruly awesome, but he has not had any luck finding a publisher. It looks like this kind of thing is best achieved with self-publishing, unfortunately.

BTW, anybody interested in abstract photography could do well to check out the rest of his work...

Those are great Muriel....I love the idea of poetry or maybe a blurb written about the photo, not by the artist.
