Amie has "challenged" me to host a doll challenge, lol.  That's interesting but I'm in a conundrum.  There's so many different media here that it's a bit difficult to come up with a theme.  I really want people to create a doll for the challenge as well, not just use one you have made in the past.  I want to inspire you.  There will be a prize as well.  An Amazon gift certificate.  I'm not sure of the amount yet, but me or Amie will let you know ASAP.

So, I've decided on Grimm's Fairytales.  If all the fairytales are a blur to you, I'll give you the highlights they have written- Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Snow White, and many other lesser known fairytales.  This may require a bit of research.  Don't pick the wrong author or you'll be disqualified.  :(  It's worth your time to read the original story you'd like to depict as they are very different from the Disney versions.  You'll get a different image in your head and the creative juices will start to flow!  The deadline for your doll will be Sept 30.  It must be posted on this thread.  It can be any medium.  I'm planning to participate as well.  I need a kick start to get back in the studio.  I've been organizing a doll artist retreat in Indy and it's been very time consuming.  The event is sold out but you can read more about it at www.lorettapolaski.com/ADSG.php if you'd like.  There is a waiting list if you'd like to be added.

So the rules again are:
1) Any medium
2) Grimms fairytales
3) Sept 30, posted on this thread.  You can add all the photos to your portfolio for judging, but post one here by the deadline so we'll know you're participating

Questions?
Loretta

Sounds fun.  I would love to participate (making mental note to get my act together).  I'm sure I can count myself lucky to get even one entry into the challenge by that time -- but just to clarify, may more than one doll be entered by a participant?

I would assume so, Patience. And how nice to see you on the forums! Howdy, girl!

Hello!  Just checking in to see how everyone's WIP for the doll challenge is going.  I am about to start mine this next week.  Just finished up a current project.  Excited to see what everyone creates!

Lost my post in space. oh well, I'll start over. If it shows up somewhere let me know.

Can you give me some ideas for an EASY material to make dolls out of that are contemporary? (I like dolls with an edge) The only doll I ever made was a 12" porcelain Mein Liebling and it took me months!!
Thanks
diana

The last doll I made was 2 pieces of felt sewn together and a face sewn on. It was so bad my nephew used it for a mock voodoo doll. lol.

No tips here. Sorry!

a voodoo doll would actually work for the "tools of divination" show currently ongoing
