This piece evolved down in the WIP section of the forums but I decided to post it finished here.  This is a portrait of Stephanie's (BeadedHeron here on EBSQ) horse Bucko, who has passed on, but lives in her memory and he was a dearly loved companion.

I truly enjoyed painting this one, he was backlit in his ref photo and had a lovely cool wintry background and I kept it as such, for it made a nice contrast to his warm auburn coat.  And, to me it showed his fun personality that he had snow on his nose, I just loved that!

I hope I have done your sweet horse justice, Steph.

Took another shot....wet paintings are difficult to photograph...I will be having my photographer friend photograph this for me next week I think, for I want good shots of this one.

Oh, Tracey, he came out just great!  I love that photo you used as a reference.  Thank you for doing this for Stephanie.  You are a gem.

Lovely piece!  I love that you kept the back-lighting...I like that...and the snow on his nose is perfect!

OMG!  Tracey, you caught his spirit so perfectly!  Bucko was a clown, and although I took hundreds of photos of him over our 26 short years together, the reference photo you used is my favorite!

This is so beautiful and wonderful!!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU a million times is not enough!!!!

Yeah, it's exactly like that. Only completely different.
I've enjoyed just about as much of this as I can stand.

Thanks everyone.  Steph, I'm so pleased you like it.  That did my heart good today.

And now, I will tell you there is a flaw in the painting (well, there are probably several flaws, but that's another discussion), but there is a flaw on the canvas.  It is on a gallery-wrapped canvas and the sides are 1.5" deep, and the bottom corner there is a chunk out of the wooden stretcher bar under the canvas that I did not notice until after I had sketched and done some of the painting.  The canvas is stretched over it fine and you can only see it if you look at it from the side, but, I'm sorry I didn't see it right away or I would have switched canvas.  But it's fine and shouldn't cause any problems.

Anyway, I'll let you know when it's dry enough to mail.

Tracey!  I love it so much!  What you call a flaw is something I probably wouldn't even notice!  I have pictured my living room painted and rearranged over this beautiful portrait of my boy!!!

THANK YOU so much!!!
