Now that all my company has left I have a little time to myself.  I am still working at learning Painter.  Here is the latest experiment.  I am in the chapter dealing with all the brushes in Painter and I don't know how many there are, but they are very confusing.  This was an experiment with Acrylic Thick Flat brush and the Broad Wheel Airbrush.  Remember this is an experiment!!  It could use some work!! .  Also this is a photo that I cloned.....Painter is quite an interesting program for Cloning Photographs.

I have worked on it a little more.  Exploring different brushes and what they can do.  I extended the image using the Thick Acrylic Bristle and I also used it to bring out the column.  You can't really see it, but there are more brushmarks from this brush.  I then tried one of the blenders...I used the Diffuse Blur Blender on the left hand side.

I also thought you might like to see the image that I am working from......or Cloning to be exact.

More if I can squeeze more time out now.  I can't figure out how to save an image and work on it another time.  More to learn, more to learn!!

Nice, C! I'll watch for what it turns into.

I don't know about Painter, but the number of brushes could be infinite like Photoshop... you can turn anything into a brush!

Ok, this time I went over it with a brush from the FX (whoohoo!) brushes.  The Furry Brush.  First I kept it small and went over the column and the ivy, softening it all.  Then I made the brush big and Wow! It just burst out.  I put those brush strokes on the left hand side,.  You can see what the brush did when it was large.

Ok, time for me to fix dinner. Drat.... I am having way too much fun.  Who needs dinner?!!

Thanks Muriel.  Yes, anything can be a brush, and then Painter has tons of them already and variants to each one.....huge!..I don't know where I am going with this because I can't yet figure out how to save and keep the cloning going.  When I save it it flattens everything down and I can't continue with what I was doing.  Just some weird quirck in Painter that I will have to learn how to do it right.  So, I probably won't do much more with this....but, hey, it was fun!

It is always so fun seeing what all these programs can do. I am going to try and take an illustrator class this next semester at the nearby college. Have you thought about finding a class for that program?

You should be able to save in layers... not good at all if it flattens when you save...

hehehe...love the "furry brush"!  It looks like sea urchins.  I can't even figure out how to use the minimal paint stuff I have, much less more.  My hat's off to you C.

As far as finding a class around here, Heide, that is pretty much impossible.  I can't even find a good class on Photoshop.  However, on line it is a different story.  There is a woman, Karen Sperling who wrote the first manual for Painter.  She offers Webinars and I am thinking of taking one from her......It seems weird to be able to take a class online, but I think it would help me....once I figure out how to do it!

Christi, I can save the image, that is not a problem, but I can't save it and open it up again and continue working on it.  In Painter when working with a photo you clone the image and Painter puts a layer something like tissue paper....you do the painting on that.  When I close it and re-open it the tissue is gone and you can't continue where you left off at.......does that make sense? !!

Yes, Heide I will let you know if I do try a class!!......actually it is something like Chat and happens live....that is really different and I am a bit intimidated by it.

Carolyn I would hate being able to save something but not reopen it to keep working!! It's really interesting what you can do those with photographs in this program.

Can't wait to see what's next.

Well, here is another.  At dinner I closed down the file, but started another with the same image.  I was having too much fun with the Fuzzy Brush........so I experimented with two different sizes.  The size makes a huge difference in bringing out the detail.  I tried it once with the big one and it was just blobs of color.  Here it is with a smaller one and then the large one mainly on the left.

Hey Carolyn nice job. I don't know what version painter you have, but befor I do anything I open the photo/drawing into photoshop, make a blank layer over it and save as a psd. When I open it in painter, I go to the top menu bar click on window and a drop down menu appears and I click on view layers. Also pull up the view toolbar, brush selection, and property bar. This give you a lot more "options" with your brushes ect. I love painter, it and photoshop are all I have ever used for my digital art. I don't know about any classes, it would be worth a try, the problem is though it is a wonderful program, it is not terrribly popular with graphic artists (they and there agencies buy the largest volume. and They are all trained on Adobe suite. The good news is unlike photoshop and illustrator, they don't roll out the lastest verision 4 times a year, so the learning curve is kinder!
