OK so I have an oil painting and have 2 questions
1) can I paint the sides with acyrlic black? that way it would dry faster? the raw sides of the canvas
2) what the best way to ship the painting to avoid damage?

spanks in advance

1) sure, why not? I do that all the time, as long as you're not painting over oil there's no problem

2) Cover your painting with parchment paper (not wax paper, or bubble wrap) so that nothing will stick to the painting. Then wrap everything around it to tape it up, since even tape won't stick to parchment paper! Other than that I can't think of anything else that would be different from shipping acrylic (I'd recommend the parchment for acrylic too).

THANKS! I thought the sides would be fine, just figured it's better to check.
OK Parchment not Wax paper, will do!
Thanks again

Hhhmmm.  I use wax paper on my acrylics and it has seemed great.  Did you have a bad experience Vicky?  Please do tell!

I haven't had a bad experience with wax paper but was advised against it ages ago & the logic makes sense. I would use it in a pinch though - I think the odds are still against anything bad happening w/wax paper, they're just less likely to happen with parchment. Things will stick to wax paper and from what I've seen, nothing sticks to parchment. Also wax paper does have wax on it so I would assume that if your painting was held up somewhere very hot while in transit, I assume the wax could melt (again not very likely, but i'd rather not take a chance).

I've had someone ship me a painting wrapped in wax paper and there was wax residue in a couple of places.  I took a warm wrag and it came off.  It was a completely dry painting though.
