Functional Art sounds so, well, boring but I've been doing it since a nun in 7th grade showed us how she sewed a wallet from the leather of an old binder. Sooooo much fun. Check out my furniture on EBSQ. Been a member for several years but really haven't gotten involved in the forum. I love hearing (and seeing) what other artists are coming up with. Totally rocks! Keep up the creativity!

Welcome Vicky!  I am just skimming the boards this morning, as I have to go out. I have your portfolio opened to peruse later.  I just wanted to jump in and say hi and welcome to the boards.    Love to see new faces, jump right in.  Coffee talk is usually hopping, and you might be offered a cuppa.

hi Vicky!

So glad you made the leap and joined us here in the forums! Functional art is such fun, but you're right ...the name is a bit boring.  Maybe it needs a new designation.  What would you call it?

Your portfolio is full of outstanding stuff.  I'm looking at my kitchen chairs with renewed interest right now... So many possibilities

P.S...oh yeah!  Like Donna said, come on down to Coffee Talk and hang out with us there

Hi Vicky!

Welcome to the boards and....WOW! I LOVE your functional artwork! My fave is the "African Rain" chair, and then my 2nd fave would be "The Lyre", and my 3rd would have to be "The Conversation!" Oh - and I also really love "The Water Carriers" -- I have a sculpture that looks quite similar to those ladies on your chair --your colors are phenomenal there! WOW! I really love these! You are very talented!

Makes me wish I had a much larger apartment (read: studio) and I would attempt a chair, but as it is, I live in a tiny NYC apartment and can barely find the room to paint/store canvases! Still, one day, I'd LOVE to attempt furniture like this! You rock! :)

Diane.

Vicky, your work is incredible. The black and green chair is my favorite, and I enjoyed your paintings as well, especially Faces. Go look at John Borrero's work!

Your profile statement is inspiring. Welcome to the forum!

Wow. Encouragement. Not used to that! But like it lots! I paint in my basement and share it with 3 cat boxes, a washer & dryer. Not too glamorous. Run ideas off my teen and my hubbie. They say "cool" or "yuck". Pretty much ends there. But I sell at a gallery 'bout an hour away and have been for about 4 years or so. Keeps me sane, or at least semi sane. Diane, better to have a smaller place to paint. Bigger means more stuff! And because I do collages on my furniture I have stacks of books, mags, boxes of games, etc. which are crowding me out. Of course, I might need it some day!

wow, such great chairs.  I also love your paintings, very interesting all of them, but especially liked the black-eyed Susans one.....a fitting tribute to Summer for sure!  Your chairs are especially interesting and fun.

I love your studio, also.  Nice working studio!  I really like the black and white chair your working on.

Welcome to the forums. Just jump right in and join is!!

Love your chairs. I am way in to recycling and giving things a face lift. I'm also in to buying fabric and having sit in the bag until I find the time, which seems to not happen as fast as I buy new fabric. Your african Rain dance chair is great. Love the colors on it. Hope to see you around the boards more.
