Finished this one up a week ago or so, and forgot to post it until I painted the sides last night.  Actually, it's one I started way back in March this year when I took a palette knife workshop, and as so often happens when I do a workshop, I paint much more slowly in the class, and never finish what I start.  It's been sitting in my garage and bothering my husband for months now, he wanted it to hang in his office.  So, I finished it up and have been waiting on it to dry.

I enjoyed doing the palette knife with oils, though it's a challenge.  I also used a new medium on this one and really like it, the Sennelier Flow and Dry medium.  Similar to the Liquin I almost always use, but, this dries to a glossier finish, giving this an almost enamel look.  I like that.  Though it doesn't dry them as quickly as Liquin, but that's ok for some works.

Good for you Tracey! I have such an issue with using a pallette knife. I was horrible at it and gave up after a short amount of time. I like what you've done, and you have much more ability then I ever did. Soon you will be doing the most amazing cats, huh!?

lol, well, maybe that would be a good subject for my next still life....if I can keep myself from eating it before the painting is done.

Tracey, I keep meaning to ask you....on acrylics with a knife, do you use modeling paste medium?

Sometimes I use medium with acrylics, sometimes not.  I don't always think of it, lol.  But, on these palette paintings (well, not this one since it's oil), I am using heavy body acrylics, Golden, Old Holland, Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith.  When I think of using a medium, I have some Liquitex heavy body gel and the super heavy body gel medium, also have used the Golden gloss gel medium and Dick Blick gloss medium.

Now, along similar lines, I do have, for oil paints, some Liquin impasto gel medium, which I may try on some of these palette knife paintings....
