Design was one of my favorite classes in college. This assignment was given to me in my Design class at the time. Here are the particulars for the creation of this painting during this assignment:
1) Find something to paint (ie: foto, print, etc) that inspired me;
I had no idea what I really "enjoyed" or was inspired by...after all I was seventeen and thought EVERYTHING inspired me! At the time, I had some interesting places where I would hang out with friends and have coffee...earlier versions of Starbux! LOL...I invited my friends to help me brainstorm. This search is when I discovered the work of artist Chris Achilleos.
I found my inspiration on the cover of the December 1980, Heavy Metal Magazine ("Elle" by Chris Achilleos). http://www.wonderclub.com/magazines/adult_magazine_single_page.php?magid=heavymetal&u=HMETAL198012
2) Choose one of the three primary colors, and interpret your inspiration (whether copied exactly or not) with acrylic paints by adding black, white and all shades of grey to your chosen color (blue) to create a monochromatic scheme;
3) Select two areas to bring into "focus" to the viewer by combining the primary colors with white and black (grey is included in this mix).
I had never seen any other version of this work, but have found it on the Chris Achilleos website. Be sure to click on item #33 on the left side. http://www.chrisachilleos.co.uk/main/gallerie/amazon/amazon.html
