This is one of the Frida Kahlo Angel dolls that was featured in the Mexico City newspaper "Reforma" in an article about the impact of Frida Kahlo around the world. My work reflected the Canadian aspect. Face and body made of muslin that I primed and painted. Her body is a vintage yarn cone. This makes her stand up straight and she could also be used as a Christmas tree topper. Vintage fabrics, lace and trims. Silk flowers in her hair. I made the necklace from a small cross and red beads. Original one of a kind. Signed and dated on inside of cone. I have been creating dolls in the image of Frida Kahlo for a number of years. I am a great admirer of hers. These angels are done using a cone from a woolen factory. I made the upper torso from muslin which I gessoed for strength and then painted. I hand drew and painted the face. The clothing is from my huge fabric treasury. I am lucky to live in an area with many Indian stores and the silks and brocades are a real inspiration. I think they adapt well to the Mexican look. The cone makes these hollow figures perfect for Christmas tree toppers. I learned this from some of my customers.
