Part of a collection of unique & rare aerial imagery, since the air space is controlled by White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base. This image is part of a collection of aerial photographs (from a small Cessna flying between 500 and 1000 ft) of sections of White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. Flying conditions were good, but the lighting was terrible for photography, but you work with what you got (mostly overcast & even as the clouds started to break, the sun was still hidden). These digital images will have a grain, just like old aerial film footage shot under similarly challenging conditions. Private and Commercial Flights (especially low altitude flights) over this area are restricted, or not allowed at all. We were on the flight with the Park Service inspecting the results of flooding and excessive rains on the Park (in the Desert!). If you get the chance, stop by White Sands National Monument -- the area is beautiful, and you will enjoy the trip!
