The founding of Livingston Montana was a direct result of the building of the Northern Pacific Railroad. The first construction train arrived on 1st December 1882. Main Street stands much as it did in the railroad heyday, the old red brick buildings all slightly different. Although the railroad no longer has a link from Livingston to Yellowstone National Park, this western town still boasts to be the first "Gateway to Yellowstone".
