Media:Acrylic and pumice on canvas Dimensions:16" x 20" Date of Work:2001
This painting is part of the Foodchain body of work. My main objective in this painting was to express the duality of life that I see around me everyday. In real life we see much beauty and at the same time we are aware of the misery . It is the way of the world we live in. This painting is formally so opulent and jewellike yet at the same time no one can ignore the harsh and disturbing subject matter. The contrast doesn't stop there. It ranges from fine detail to heavy piled on gritty texture. Smooth and glossy to rough. Shiny to flat. Real life is full of such contrast . In this was I can catagorize this painting as "realistic". There is no substitute for this painting. I have no plan to mass produce them. It is a true original.
