Although it is a recent myth, the universal appeal of the little circle with the spider-like web, the Dream Catcher has intrigued me. As many have made these Dream Catchers, I decided to use the icon as a departure, and create figures that would relate to making , holding or giving of a Dream Catcher. I have also used other symbols to complete my vision
I did not put features on the weaver's head as I leave that to the viewer imagination. I hope the veiwers see a caring, understanding, and strong individual who will help them hold on to their ideas and dreams. The significance of the feathers is from the belief that feathers bring prosperity. Black is a symbol for wisdom. Turquoise stands for peace and harmony.
About the piece in general: It is a handmade, sculptured, copper figure, which I have shaped, pounded and then colored by passing the flame of my torch across the metal. The figure is mounted on a 9 inch circular black suede matboard frame, from which hangs three handmade copper feathers. The feathers are removable. The circle with the Dream Weaver is handsome by itself. All is coated with a clear sealer.
A Certificate of Authenticity is attached to the back with my signature, copyright mark, and information how to contact me if later you have a question. I made this November 2003, to send to a gallery in New Mexico; however, this and 2 other peices, didn’t get mailed.
