Poor witch Alma tried every carrier she could find and every spell she could conjour to get her black kitty, Merlin, 'contained' for his annual vet's visit. Nothing worked - Merlin was just too quick for her. So, being an ever crafty witch and a very wise crone, she whipped up a cute sequined messenger bag which Merlin simply couldn't resist -- all those glittery sequins really caught his eye. Now he can travel with Alma wherever she goes. Merlin especially likes going to the deli and sampling gourmet cheeses. Oh, the things we do for our pets! Alma is a character art doll and is made of my own original design without the use of a commercial pattern. She is both hand stitched and machine stitched. Other than her hat and trims, she and Merlin are made of soft cotton fabrics. Both are stuffed with soft fiberfill. Alma's face, hands and witchie boots are hand painted with acrylics. Merlin is also hand painted. Alma's face is figural with a large pointy nose and witchie chin. I used coordinating Victorian style fabrics for Alma's outfit. Her hat, cape and messenger bag can be removed. Her removeable cape is the same fabric as her dress but has a black background rather than a cream background. It has a cream and black striped lining and is accented with black eyelash trim. Her removeable hat is made of a black wool felt blend and is completely hand stitched. It has bright orange eyelash trim at the band and a jaunty feather enhancement as Alma is very fond of fashion. Her removeable kitty bag is made of coordinating fabrics and is fully lined with the same fabric as her her stockings. It has beautiful orange sequins around the top and on the strap. Merlin is permanently attached inside the bag (we don't want a repeat of Little Bo Peep). Alma's beautiful Victorian dress is sewn onto her body. She has real Victorian black glass luster buttons at her neck and chest and orange eyelash trim at her neckline, waistband, cuffs and dress hem. Vintage black cluny lace enhances the top and she has an earthenware black kitty cat button on her waist. Underneath, she has a double tiered black organza crinoline with raw edges and bright orange bloomers with a black cat pattern and black cluny lace trim. Her stockings are bright lime green and turquoise pindot fabric. Her gray hair is pure wool that's been needle felted into her head with a touch of glue at the hairline. Her elbows and knees are tied for posing. Alma is 27" tall without her hat and will sit nicely in a doll chair. If you position her properly, she can sit without back support. She also has a cord sewn into her back so you may hang her. Signed and dated on back. These two whimsical characters would add a nice burst of color and wicked witch Halloween fun to your goodie shelf - especially if you are one who likes black cats! Alma is an art doll and was created for display only. Although made very sturdily, she's not intended as a child's toy, nor is Merlin.
