To me, typography is almost an essential part of my art. The written word sometimes speaks things that they eye could not see otherwise. It can add a message or convey a specific feeling that might otherwise be missed by the viewer. This piece would not be complete without the typewritten snippet of song to go along with it.
The idea for this piece came from my sister and I always singing the "Trick or Treat ... Smell My Feet ... Give Me Something Good To Eat" Halloween Song. I used a vintage image of 3 children dressed for Halloween and printed on fabric as the center. Contrasting fabric was then layer stitched onto multi-dyed orange felt for the caught in the web piece. 1 inch by 1/2 inch trim was used to make the frame. Holes were drilled through the trim to string the web. Using beads to anchor the web radials, black sewing thread was used to hand-spin the web and secure the fabric image behind.
