Porcelain clay, slip design. A light blue glaze was incorporated with the slip to add a two-tone color, to the hieroglyph type design.
Porcelain is denser, finer clay, which makes it harder to do hand built objects , because it is harder to get it to hold a shape. The design on this was done with a paint brush and watered down clay called slip. The background is the natural white of the clay. High temperature, kiln fired.
