This is a poem I wrote around the time of a family member passing away, and my reflections on that. I affixed a paper skull and crossbones to the left of the silver embossed crown stamp and added a pewter full moon face on the right side. I placed two strips of spider web paper on either side, before adding the hand written hand fired parchment on top of them. I then added two stickers with superfine gold and green glitter, one a skull that matches the crossbones and skull affixations and one is a spider, to compliment the web paper and also to connect with the art of writing itself. I hand stamped a few graveyards and added a pewter skeleton charm as well.
Sorry about the glare, I have lots of windows in my house, and lots of reflections all around.
Death/Poem
A dark horse gallops towards me
and I immediately recognize death
and its shower of sand in my eyes
and its drowning and wishing
realizations
of how short a life really is
how time surpasses us in a blur
and suddenly we forget the names
of the most familiar things
as we walk along the streets
of our well lived lives
of our memories still intact
of our tears pouring in torrents
of wasted fears and impending endings
we wait knowing their inevitability
knowing their entrance
will be sublime and coincidental
dirty diamonds and
the smell of something
burning all day long
just the simple cylinder
of our lives
as are all things
as are we all
