The beauty of this photograph always stuns me! The way the figure shies away in the corner of the image with a thin veil draping over her back. She is mysterious, graceful, perhaps introverted, yet always remaining beautiful in a covert manner. This image could possibly summarize the entire meaning of the "Smoke and Mirrors" series in which it is a part of.
"The body is one of the most recognizable objects known to man. It is with this premise that I began to delve into the world of what is unknown and unique within us. I would like to think of my images as windows into another world where light is used to entirely reconstruct the body. Relying heavily on the illusion that black and white offers, I have created an alternate realm where arms are often absent, backs are deformed and faces are distorted. Even though this idea might seem disturbing, the images that resulted have a deeply sensual and mysterious appeal. The lure of this unexpected world challenges the viewers' perceptions as well as their intense need to identify.
*Notation: the image presented here is cropped slightly because of scanner limitation in dealing with a black background. Therefore, the actual image has much more blackness while the figure is still facing the right corner of the photograph. Trust me, it's even more stunning.
