I am in love with this piece! It is from a series I did in the winter of 2002 and was a perfect distraction from the Oregon blues. I had been thinking about photographing dried flowers for several seasons, and was especially interested in the seed pods of poppies.
"Two things happened with this series for me. One, I needed to express my intense, and genetic, connection to the land. I relish in observing the evolution of the seasons and look forward to their predictability and subtle surprises each year. Seed collection is, of course, a natural step. Sometimes, also the "glory days" of a flower are often viewed as the only phase worthy of photgraphing and admiring, which should not be the case.
The poppy is a beautiful example of this concept. From one head, bursts forth lliterally hundreds of tiny seeds, guaranteeing the prosperity of that particular flower, potentially, forever. ~ Toni Chiapelli
