How to be a Savvy Art Buyer

Many professional artists are now selling their work on the internet. There is so much to choose from and it may be difficult to sort through all the various choices. Also, it may be a daunting task to make a purchase based solely on a small computer image.

I've made a list of some of the things to watch out for when purchasing art online to ensure that you will have a pleasant buying experience. Happy art collectors come back for more original art!!

* Always check the sellers' feedback rating.

Comments written by other buyers will give you a pretty good idea whether you are dealing with a reputable seller. Remember that there are art sweatshops in the Orient that mass produce paintings, many of which are copied and painted with inferior materials. Shipping fees may also be outrageous to make up for the absurdly low prices.

* Make sure that the artist guarantees your satisfaction.

If for some reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you should be able to return the art and get a refund of your purchase price.

* Buy direct from the artist.

Artists have discovered that the internet is an excellent way to get their work in front of millions of potential art buyers. Although galleries have their place, virtual online galleries provide art collectors with the ability to view a wide range of original art in the comfort of their own homes. Galleries routinely mark art up 50%, making an original painting inaccessable to the average buyer.

I hope that these hints will make it easier for you to be confident when purchasing art online.
