EBSQ Art FAQ - Member Tools - Create Thumbnails - Links What are 'Thumbnails'? Thumbnails are smaller (typically quite small) representations of images. For our purposes, it just means 'smaller than the original'. What are 'Links'? In our context (Art Case images), 'Links' refers to the URL (internet address) of an image. Why do I need thumbnails or links? You might not. But, if you would like to use one of your images from your Art Case elsewhere on the internet (using HTML or simply by supplying some third party with a URL), you would use the 'Create Thumbnails/Links' tool to get this information. Where do I manage my Thumbnails? Nowhere. Thumbnails are created 'on the fly' by the EBSQ web server. When you create a thumbnail, you are provided with a URL for the thumbnail. The URL contains information that essentially defines the thumbnail (the information about the thumbnail is contained in the URL). Because of this, the server knows how to recreate the thumbnail each time it is requested - hence they do not need to be managed. I created a thumbnail I don't want anymore, how do I delete it? Nowhere. See the entry for 'Where do I manage my Thumbnails?'
How do I create a Thumbnail for an image in my Art Case?
- First, access your Art Case. Your Art Case can be found in the left-hand menu of your profile ('Art Case/Portfolio').
- You should see a new screen. This screen contains the Art Case search tool.
- Enter appropriate search criteria and click the 'Search' button.
- After you find the item for which you wish to create a thumbnail, locate the 'Command' column.
- Where the Command Column and the row with your item meet should be a 'drop down' list from which you can select 'Create Thumbs/Links'.
- After selecting 'Create Thumbs/Links', click the 'Go' button that appears to the right of the command list.
- You will be presented with the 'Make Thumbnails' page.
- At the bottom of this new page is a section called 'Scale'.
- If you know the width or height (in pixels) that you need, you can supply the information in the appropriate text box and select the adjoining radio button. (Note, you only need to supply either the width OR the height - the tool will calculate the missing value using the first and maintain the images proportions.)
- Otherwise, you could supply a percentage value by selecting the desired 'scale' (percentage) in the 'By Percent' drop menu and also selecting the adjoining radio button.
- Optionally, check the box labeled 'Sharpen Image by' and choose the desired sharpening in the adjoining drop menu.
- Finally, click the 'Create Thumbnail' button at the bottom of the screen.
- You will be shown the new thumbnail on a new page - the page will also contain the 'Create Thumbnail' tool and will remember the settings used to create the just-made thumbnail.
- Since thumbnails are always created 'on demand', you can continue to use the tool until you are happy with the results without fear that you are 'creating a bunch of thumbnails' (see the FAQ section 'Where do I manage my Thumbnails?' for more information)
