EBSQ Art FAQ - Member Tools - Art Case What is the Art Case? The 'Art Case' is the most important tool in your profile. Most all features and functions of the site are (or will soon be) centered around the Art Case. The concept of the Art Case is important to understand. Quite simply, it is a repository in which you can store a digital representation of your art. Personal Galleries, EBSQ Galleries, Creating Templates, Creating COAs (soon), etc. are all centered around the Art Case. When defining items in your Art Case, you provide details about the item such as size, media, statement, detail images, etc. You also define what, if any, Personal and EBSQ galleries in which the item will appear. Why is the Art Case so important? The Art Case provides a central area at EBSQ from which you can access your art. It allows EBSQ to concentrate their efforts on using 'one set of art' for tools (and likewise, allows the artist to maintain one set of art). This is good because it prevents the need to constantly upload images into different areas of the site. Is there a limit to the number of pieces of art I can keep in my Art Case? No. There is no limit to the amount of art you can keep in your Art Case. As long as the art is yours. Can I use the Art Case for pictures other than art? No. The Art Case is only for art. We do provide a separate tool to allow hosting of 'other' images. The image hosting tool is not as robust as the Art Case and is intended to allow members to store their non-art, yet art-related images (i.e. logos, works in progress).
Why do I have to search for my art in my Art Case? Since there is no limit to the number of items you can keep in your Art Case, we have to provide a method for members to easily find their art. What is the difference between the Art Case and Image Hosting? Image hosting is not as robust as the Art Case. Also, image hosting is intended to allow members to store their non-art, yet art-related images (i.e. logos, works in progress). How do I find my art in my Art Case? If you don't have many items in your Art Case Simply access you Art Case and click the Search Button (without providing any search criteria). If, however, you have many items in your Art Case, there are a couple ways to narrow down your search results. First, you can cause the search tool to only return art from one of your galleries. Also, you can enter text in the 'Title Contains' field to cause the search tool to only return items whose title contain the text entered into the field. How do I add art to my Art Case?
- First, access your Art Case. Your Art Case can be found in the left-hand menu of your profile ('Art Case/Portfolio').
- You should see a new screen. This screen contains the Art Case search tool. Since you are adding an item to the Art Case, there is no need to perform a search.
- At the bottom of the page should be an 'Add' button. Click the 'Add' button.
- You should now be presented with a new page prompting you for information about the item you wish to add to your Art Case.
- Fill in as much information on this page as you wish/ can.
- Click the 'Save' button when finished to save your new entry.
How do I delete art from my Art Case? IMPORTANT: If you are accessing the Art Case item from elsewhere on the internet (i.e. an auction), then you should not delete the item as it will cause the image to not be available.
- First, access your Art Case. Your Art Case can be found in the left-hand menu of your profile ('Art Case/Portfolio').
- You should see a new screen. This screen contains the Art Case search tool.
- Enter appropriate search criteria and click the 'Search' button.
- After you find the item you wish to delete, locate the 'Command' column.
- Where the Command Column and the row with your item meet should be a 'drop down' list from which you can select 'Delete Item'.
- After selecting 'Delete Item', click the 'Go' button that appears to the right of the command list.
- You will be prompted by a new page verifying that you are sure you wish to delete the item.
I added art to my Art Case, but it doesn't show in my portfolio / gallery. Why? You have to add the item to one of your personal galleries (or create a new personal gallery).
- Where the Command Column and the row with your item meet should be a 'drop down' list from which you can select 'Edit Item'.
- After selecting 'Edit Item', click the 'Go' button that appears to the right of the command list.
- You will be presented with the edit screen for Art Case items (same as the 'Add' screen).
- In the section 'Gallery Placement' is a subsection called 'Personal Galleries'.
- In Personal galleries, either select one of you existing galleries, or use the 'Personal Gallery (new)' field to create a new gallery.
What is this 'Gallery Quick Edit'? The 'Gallery Quick Edit' is useful in managing your personal galleries. Though you cannot create new galleries using this feature, you can move items within and to other galleries easily. See the FAQ section on Personal Galleries for more tips on using this feature. In the Art Case search results, I click the 'Go' button and nothing happens, why? This can happen if you choose to view 25 'Items Per Page'. Choose a lower number of 'Items Per Page'. Can I use images from my Art Case elsewhere on the internet? Yes - in general. We ask that you try to avoid doing so if it will literally be viewed by thousands of people per hour (which would be hard to do!). We also ask that, when you can (i.e. it doesn't interfere with your professional appearance) to mention/link to ebsq :) Where do I find my 'Art Case'? Your Art Case can be found in the left-hand menu of your profile ('Art Case/Portfolio'). Click the link to view your Art Case. I deleted an art case image - but now realize that I was using it for image hosting. Can you add it back? If you have control of where the image is being referenced (I.e. your web site), it would be simplest for you to add the item again to your art case and point to the new image.
If, however, the image is being referenced somewhere you have no control over (I.e. an eBay auction that cannot be edited), we MAY be able to help. In this case, please email us at tech@ebsqart.com with the following information:
- The URL (web address) of the page containing the 'broken' image
- The image itself (as a jpeg).
Unfortunately, we can't guarantee it will be possible to correct the problem (in general, if the web page is referencing a 'jpg' image and not an 'asp' page (image) we should be able to help). How do I use 'Gallery Quick Edit'? Note: Since you cannot add new Personal Galleries using this tool, be sure to add at least one of your Items to a new gallery using the 'Edit' feature before using the Gallery Quick Edit tool.
- Access your Profile.
- In the left-hand menu find the link 'Art Case / Portfolio'
- Click the link.
- You will be presented with the Art Case search tool.
- Use the Search Tool to do a 'broad' search encompassing the items you would like to more between galleries or for which you would like to alter their placement (order) in a gallery.
- Your search results will be displayed.
- Two columns of the search results should be labeled 'Gallery Quick Edit' (Order and Gallery columns).
- Enter new values for Order and Gallery as desired.
- Click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom of the 'Gallery Quick Edit' column when finished.
I don't want my images to appear so large on the site. What can I do? There are a few things you can do to protect your images.
- Before uploading images, resize them to the maximum size you would like them to appear.
- Consider using 'watermarks' on the images of your art.
- Some people take the time to 'distort' a portion of their image (i.e. make the left side of the image 'hi resolution' and cause the right side to be a very low resolution).
Feel free to discuss the issue with other members on the message boards for their input. How do I add a PayPal button to my portfolio items? contributed by EBSQ artist Torrie Smiley
First, let me warn you~ I have had no formal computer training. There is no computer lingo in the instructions and lots of pictures!
Listing from EBSQart.com Gallery
Upload/Edit Art Case
You can add a PayPal button through editing your item or when you initially add your item to your Art Case.
Fill in the appropriate information for your listing. I like to include a brief description about the composition, the specifics regarding materials used, and the purchasing and shipping details. I separate these paragraphs with the funny symbol
This tells the computer to insert a space between the paragraphs. I also use the curly-cue at the upper left of the keyboard and stars to separate different sections of the listing. If you notice at the end of the listing after the PayPal button, I have included an EBSQ counter so I can watch the views of the listing.
Select the tab for Merchant Services.
Under Create Buttons in the center left column, select/click Buy Now
You are now ready to create your PayPal button!
Fill in Item name. I enter the title of my painting and the size. Just to the right, I enter the painting name in the Item ID box.
Now, fill in the Price for your item.
Continuing down the page
Next, enter your Shipping. In my listings, I use a flat shipping fee that I enter by selecting Use Specific amount.
~~Don’t be frightened by the "pop-up" shipping information, just click it off if it does not apply to you~~~ (I always click it off)
You have now completed the basic information for a PayPal button and can select the Create Button.
(There are other options on this page that don’t pertain to me.but may to you; fill out these areas if you need them included with your PayPal information.)
Here is the "code" for your PayPal button:
Select/Click on Select Code. This will highlight all of the text in the box. "Right click" your mouse to copy.
Now, go back to you listing in your EBSQart.com Art Case:
Select the spot on your listing (artist statement for this piece) where you would like your PayPal button to be and "right click" and "Paste"
All done...sort of...
On my listings, I like everything separated out to make it easier to read on smaller computer screens.
The <p> is the symbol to add a space and I do this before I paste the PayPal code and at the end of the code to set the button apart with spaces.
Save your listing, and then check out your button on "View my Profile" public view.
To make sure everything works as expected, open the listing as if you were a buyer and click your new button.
If you were successful with your button creation, you should arrive at a log in screen to PayPal.com with your painting information at the top.
CONGRATULATIONS!
You can now sell your art directly from your gallery. Pay attention to your emails from PayPal. That is how you will know you have a sale!
One final note: once you DO make that sale, make sure to remove your button from your listing, or someone could try to buy the same item again!
