Hello my name is Pam Tanzey.
Since the early 1980s my work has lived in two story telling worlds each influencing the other, whimsical illustrations and realistic animal art with a twist of whimsy.
As a freelance Illustrator I used a brush to ink thick and thin lines in cartoon strips and coloring books. I painted in gouache, watercolor and acrylic to illustrate Children’s products and storybooks in mass market and education. I created my own characters and also worked in licensed properties such as My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, and Thomas the Tank Engine.
For ten years I illustrated an award winning monthly column and feature articles in the AKC Gazette, which lead to my passionate focus of painting dogs. They talk to me through their pictures. I do my best to be a vehicle for them, passing their messages and their love into my paintings for the hearts that love them, especially the hurting ones left behind.
My dog portraits are painted in acrylic, while layering washes I spend time with them until their image emerges. I want the world to see them as I do, looking right at me with all of their humor, beauty and love.
