COLLAGE / MIXED MEDIA ART

My first experience with collage /assemblage art as an adult was through my college art history class.  At first I was unsure of how to approach the project.  We were told to look through art magazines and create a collage about our lives.  When it came time to present our work in class, all of the collages were displayed on the wall of the classroom, I was shocked to see that my collage was completely different from everyone elses.  Of course, when the instructor got to my work, she asked the class "What collage stands out, is different from the rest of them" -- then she asked me how I had come up with the piece.  Most of the others had done the typical collage compositions, combining words images, etc., however, mine was a collage of different patterns arranged abstractly into a skyscape and landscape broken up by an image of a head with a "world" balanced upon it.&n
