Bio:

I reside in Crawfordsville, IN and consider myself a watermedia artist. Since a young child, I have always had an interest in art and design. Thiirty years ago, I painted in oils and acrylics. However, my formal education and profession lead me in a different direction. In August of 2004, I retired from the Indiana Dept.of Education as Director ot Title I for the state. Shortly, thereafter, I picked up my brushes after a 25 year absence from painting, and have not stopped since.

Currently my work can be viewed at my studio; at the Collective Art Gallery, Indianapolis, IN; at the Lafayette Renaissance Academy, Lafayette, IN; and at the Kennedy Heights Art Center, Cincinnati, OH. Recently, I have posted my artwork on artbyus.com.

Artist Statement:

My subject matter originates from my original photographs, from my plain air painting experience, and from my memory. I am inspired by the Indiana landscape and the multitude of colors found in flowers. My favorite subject matter includes painting barns, flowers, and the Indiana landscape.

I paint primarily in acrylics where I often use other elements to achieve the desired effeft. These elements include pen and ink, transparent watercolor, gloss medium, and collage paper.

My technique includes using watercolor paper and building up areas of vibrant color by using many layers of transparent acrylic paints. I strive to explore the interaction of color and texture on paper, but within the realim of represental subject matter.

When people view my work, I want them to enjoy my use of color and texture to represent the Midwestern landscale and to enjoy the beauty found in many Indiana gardens.
