I've always known that creating art was a primal calling for me. In 2001, after forty years as an engineer and several lay-offs, I began serious art study. I most of my artistic development has been the result of self-directed study of art books, magazines, websites and various workshops, however, I am now working on an MFA in illustration from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I am also enjoying teaching life drawing and painting as an adjunct at The Art Institute of Dallas.
I create art primarily for the joy of the experience, however, part of that joy derives from thinking of the response of viewers. There is no greater indicator of viewer response than sales, so I have to admit that public response and the resulting sales motivate me. Brick and mortar gallery representation is an exciting experience, however, in today's art world even the owners of such galleries admit that the web based markets are becoming more important and an effective web presence is vital. The main problem with the web as marketing tool for original art, particularly fine art is promoting your work over the thousands of other artists out there. EBSQ membership helps in this task, however, an artist must present his or her work through many venues to achieve enough contact and exposure to begin to attract collectors.
My art is narrative in its style. In my fine art I concentrate on evoking rather than telling a story of course illustration art is story telling by its very nature. I create images, moods, action, and compositions that inspire curiosity and have personal resonance and humor. For these reasons, I usually stick to very recognizable subjects while attempting to introduce a slight shift of perception that will tease my viewer away from seeing just "another nice picture".
My work has been juried into shows in Texas and New Mexico. I am a Signature Member of the Texas Visual Arts Association
