My name is Sonya Baughman Andrews and I am a painter and graphic designer in Kansas City, Missouri. I own a lovely little 3-story shirtwaist in the middle of the city along with my wonderful photographer husband, Paul Andrews, and my 2 dogs, Crook and Little Dog. I hold a degree in Studio Art and Graphic Design from the University of Missouri - Kansas City and have been working as a freelance artist for two years now.
I seem to have chosen no specific genre to focus my painting on, but this is just a reflection of the rest of my life. I like to do a little bit of everything when I can. I have been in Irish, country, nerd-rock and rock and roll bands, travelled to Ecuador, worked in the pharmeceutical robotics industry, hiked on the Appalachian Trail, designed anything from company brand identities to convention displays, painted a backdrop for a photo studio and a mural at a restaurant, sewn halloween costumes professionally for plus-sized women, and am currently helping a friend with her apparel business.
I like to think that in all of the things that I have done and continue to do with my life, each one influences and enhances the other. I hope that these things will give me a broader understanding of life, the universe and everything and make my art richer, better and more informed.
My current painting projects include a cityscape of Dodge City, KS and a series of retro/pin-up style "cocktail girls". I am attempting to illustrate every drink in my bartender's bible. We'll see if I'm up to this challenge :)
