This is my first mosaic, clay, stone work. It is in our home, and I mixed the powdery stone mixture myself, and then pressed pieces of colorful ceramic broken plates into it., My daughter brought these plates back from a trip to Morocco. One broke in her suitcase as they are not fired. I saved the pieces, and also the matching dish, that did not break, and then broke it also...to make this fireplace come alive! Also, I made the floor of the hearth, pressing some special stones I had collected, and they actually form the bodies of two creatures that stare at a central flower. The process and the reult of this work was exhilirating and it is a joy to live with this hand-built piece in our home.
