At the end of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" Prospero says "This thing of darkenss, I acknowledge mine." These words have always haunted me, and I have tried to understand them. These tiny illustrative watercolors show Prospero looking into his own being to see that this dark (animal) nature is part of him. He approaches as if to a cave lit from within, where he finds that part of himself, and in that knowledge glows all the more strongly with a self-transforming magical power. These are three tiny watercolors (part of my "Inner Windows" series), collaged onto heavy handmade paper , with the quote, wriiten in ink pen, underneath.
