Living in the northwoods of Wisconsin I am privileged to be able to entertain many visiting beautiful creatures. I count some moths among them, though I don't favor common whitish ones.

Family: Wild Silk Moths (Saturniidae)

These colorful moths prefer wooded areas with poorly drained, boggy, acid soil and gardens; and a wide variety of wooded habitats.

My yard fits the bill perfectly!

In mornings I am always eager to go outside and see what might be lurking in my yard that was not there the night before. This moth was one of those surprises!

One interesting fact about this strikingly beautiful moth is that the adults do not eat in their lifetime!

Shot with a Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital camera.
