How long have you been creating?

Since I entered the colouring contest to win a pony..(I won the cowboy hat..) and recognized the power of making stuff. I remember spending long languishing afternoons in my tent under a huge willow tree crafting illustrated stories at ten. Later researching doll making and crafting my first nylon stocking doll named “Angelo” and pig flour/salt water clay pins in high school. I learned that you make things..you are never bored. There has always been an adrenalin rush of excitement in devising the project and pulling it off..the process has always been fulfilling.

I always knew I would land myself in art college but alas I have learned more by devotion to my craft.

What, besides your art, brings you creative fulfillment?

Lately digging in the soil and planting vegetables and flowers have brought much joy and sore muscled pleasure into my life. The creative play is in the colours the shapes and hope that what pops up each spring will be a gorgeous living thing. Taking care of my chickens and various 4 footed family members and to a large degree being a mother –as this has humbled me taken me out of my self centred place and encouraged me to be creative about my approach to parenting and life.I like to challenge myself with new life experiences.. I have also tentatively returned to writing ..I am stumbling into it in small digestible pieces..so w’ell see what happens next..

What are your motivations for creating?

Making art is my dynamic life force ..I have realized that without it I am unsteady, missing a limb. I dive into painting and creating in my studio and am transported to another place. I need art and the process is just as important as the product. It feels like a gift that I must constantly use..and I appreciate the thought that my art is hanging on walls of people who may glance at it daily and smile! Creating art sharpens my eye and makes me look at the world through a new lens. I do believe art transforms people, their environments. and communities. So I believe I am participating in the world to add a little extra beauty and perhaps encourage others to think with my art .

How do you know when a piece you're working on is done?

I just do. Sometimes I return to a piece on a another day and dissatisfied on some level I add another element or layer..or completely redo a painting..An idea will germinate while I am away from a piece..and upon return I know I have cracked it!

What do you find stimulating right now? How does this influence your creative process?

My rural environment excites and stimulates me daily.I am an expatriate city girl with a lifelong longing for country life and I have finally arrived!

My senses are alive with pollen and growth and the hum of bugs..The weather humbles me. I am aware of my own history and the history of others and that inspires me to consider how we can capture our immortality in a portrait or something we make with our hands. The merging of these thoughts fascinate me –as life is really quite simple when you pare it down..and I believe as humans we crave for something that defines our humanity beyond material wealth or gain.

What brought you to EBSQ?

In discovering it while cruising art sites I was impressed with the quality of the site and variety of artist members . I like the community aspect and the art challenges ..also it is the most user friendly template I have encountered for my listings on Ebay!Visually it’s appealing..but also very practical and professional ..

Please share some of your artistic goals for 2008.

I would like to try some more expressionist/abstract pieces(with at least one element of reality!) I am also intending to experiment with mylar as a substrate and play with my projector

I am also investigating opportunities for brick and mortar exhibitions further a field. I would also like to work in paper mache again-perhaps in doll form ..

What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and our collectors to know about you and/or your work?

I am a dedicated artist who is not going away.. I am quirky, appreciate my female strengths and do not fit into a box .I continue to create and evolve . I often have numerous cascading ideas and thoughts..in an overly stimulated mode..so I strive to continue to make life interesting for myself..and hopefully others.
