SOLD - My Sanguine Ferns
I have always been inspired by curves and circles. The first drawing I ever made was a circle atop a vertical line. It has developed to an affinity for concentric circles, such as unfurling baby ferns. Circles, double-helixes, the mobius; they are all symbols that I love to use.
Last spring while returning to Boston from a winter trip, I stopped at Garden in the Woods, http://www.newfs.org/garden.htm, and photographed ferns and cacti. The fragile quality of the ferns in contrast to the of the cacti captured my attention, especially as I noticed a dead patch of cacti. The winter had been harsh but the ferns still flourished. The cacti and their armoured bodies did not weather the winter and they lay shriveled on the ground.
“My Sanguine Ferns” was one of the first large images of this series about a similar intrinsic contrast .
