How long have you been creating?

As cliche as it sounds, for as long as I can remember! My mother learned early on that the easiest way to keep me occupied was to pass me crayons and blank paper. Beyond that, my "Aunt" DeeDee is a professional watercolorist, so I was introduced to painting at a fairly young age.

What is your media of choice?

Is "any and all" an acceptable answer? I tend to have my fingers in many pots at the same time, and what I'd list as my favorite tends to be whatever I'm working on at the moment. Lately, I've been revisiting photos of older 3D pieces and altering them digitally, which is fun in that you start to look at your work in a different way. The two I most frequently play in would have to be mixed media assemblage and art dolls/figurative sculpture though.

What are your motivations for creating?

To keep myself out of trouble...and I say that only partially in jest! Idle hands and all that jazz. I don't know that I have a particular motivating factor in creating...it's simply something I do, have always done, and will continue to do as long as I'm able.

What other artists or movements inform your work?

I would have to say my fellow artist friends. I think we feed off of each other in many ways, in a mutually beneficial circle of creative energy. As far as "famous artists," Egon Schiele, Waterhouse, Erte, Klimt, and many others.

What do you find visually stimulating right now?

At this exact moment? Sculptural knitting. In particular, those folks who are doing realistic, non-cutesy interpretations of invertebrate aquatic life such as anenomes and the like, as well as corals, cepholapods, etc. As a beginning knitter, I find the level of detail they've achieved astonishing.

Read anything good lately?

Don't even get me started. I've just taken a vow not to buy any more books for one month, actually! (we'll see if I make it.) A few that come to mind are: The Road by Cormac McCarthy...if you haven't read this beautiful, haunting, lyrical, terrifying, simply wonderful book, do yourself a favor and pick it up! Also, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch is a completely enjoyable romp...excellent summer reading. Kind of like a fantasy version of Oceans Eleven, set in an alternate Venice...with sharks.

Tell us about some of your artistic goals for 2007.

To get it together to teach art courses in 2008. To have more free time to create in. To *finally* learn how to weld...and mostly to finish the construction of our home (my partner Charlie and I are building it by hand, ourselves) so I can have an actual studio! With shelves. And drawers. And more shelves.

What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and our collectors to know about you and/or your work?

This question always throws me for a loop! That I'm not as goofy as I seem? Others might dispute that statement though. That I'm a rabid collector of vinyl "toys." That I welcome comissions and challenges. I very much enjoy participating in collaborative work with other artists.
