G Likan -

Media:  oil on canvas
Dimensions:  16 x 20
Date of Work:  11/2007

This was painted for the Still Life Challenge on EBSQ's Still Life Forum. The challenge was to use one of your favorite still life artists as the inspiration to create a painting of your own.

I chose Gustav Likan as my inspiration. He uses vivid and saturated color, and also employs a style of layering areas of transparent color on the canvas. You can see a sample of his work in the detail below.

In my painting I used the saturated color that I love, but I was not so successful in re-creating the layered style that I admire so much. I guess it's just not the way I see things. Oh well, I am pleased with the result anyway.
