Arbor Suite - Seventh in a series

The working title of this painting was 'Moon and Trees', but after it was finished, the trees seemed to be an appreciative audience watching the moon traverse the sky, so they became 'Moon Watchers'.

As in the preceding piece of this series, I am continuing to explore ways to divide the canvas using tree forms. The forms are simplified so as to maximize the impact of the soft and subtle color changes. I used a drybrush and rubbing technique to apply layers of pigment to achieve a soft, atmospheric affect. The earlier layers of color show through in the crevices of the canvas, while subsequent colors remain on the top of the grain.

11"x14", oil on canvas
