How it might look with furniture

Media:  acrylic on Deep Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
Dimensions:  18x24x1.5"
Date of Work:  9/2006

Burnt Offerings is a large 18x24x1.5" painting that was created using glazing techniques and is also quite textured. I wanted to capture the look and feel of a flaming ball of light or crackling flash from a raging fire that's out of control (Great balls of fire!)... Quite a conversation piece in any room!

There were several steps in creating this piece.

First I created the texture by laying down a heavy coat of texture paste, and spread it around the canvas in a random manner, leaving nooks and crannies wherever they appeared.

Then I started adding color by using a very small amount of titanium white, mixed in with some bright yellow. Then I blended that out into the red areas. When I was satisfied that it was enough, I then started glazing. I used burnt sienna, and burnt umber, and mixed it in with napthol red in small amounts until I achieved the desired effect of an orangey-brick or rust color. For the final step, I took some raw umber, and VERY lightly went around the edges to give the "burnt" or charred appearance.

This piece really glows and is full of warm tones to sooth you on a cold Winter's night.

You'll love the warmth it lends to your home or office!
