Liquid Colors 2
This is one of my colorful stained glass painted pieces. It's a vase that has a fun, and interesting bulbous and flared shape to it. It measures approx. 7"Hx4.5"W. I consider this method of stained glass painting to be working in "cold" glass.
When the sunlight shines through the colors, it will cast lovely colorful shadows (which you can see in some of the photos here).
I wanted create something wildly colorful that would draw attention to it, but also to put a modern abstract spin on it, and just went wild with color. This piece is truly a stunner in person! The colors just hit you, and no matter which angle you view it from there is color everywhere!
In fact, I do show it in differing angles in the photos here so you can see for yourself how different it looks from any angle and how the colors interact with each other. The really cool thing about these pieces is you can actually see through one color to the next (on the other side of the glass) for an interesting play on light & color.
It features colors with a beautiful translucency or iridescence to them. I achieve this look by mixing 2 or more colors in each section.
Some of the colors I used are: Lime green, turquoise, citrus yellow, ruby red, magenta royale, orange poppy, amethyst.
The technique I use to create these is this:
First, I lay down the black "liquid leading" outlines. Then after those are dry (overnight), I apply the colors to each individual section, meticulously with a toothpick(!), using it to blend and spread the colors all the way to the edges of the black outlines, making sure to pop any bubbles that occur along the way. Then, when I am satisfied with all the color it is left to "cure" or dry for about a week. The final outcome is what you see here and I'm sure it will garner several compliments from your guests.
